The Fifth Taste

February 4, 2017 By Alexis Guerrero

The countdown has begun: Just two days until the biggest sporting event of the year – Super Bowl LI. On Sunday, February 5, at 6:30 pm EST hundreds of millions around the world will watch the Atlanta Falcons, and the New England Patriots go head to head. That’s not to mention Lady Gaga, iconic commercials, and the decadent cheese doodles we get to indulge in without feeling guilty.

Get down to your local Umami Burger on Sunday to watch the big game! We’ll be featuring our game day specials of $2 select draft beers, $3 truffle fries, $4 Umami sliders and $5 Umami wings.*

To get you fired up, below is everything you need to know about the big day ahead:

  • More than 116.5 million viewers in the U.S. watched last year’s show, 2017 is expected to be even bigger.
  • It will be Lady Gaga’s second time performing at the Super Bowl. This year she has lofty goals of championing inclusion and equality: “I don’t know if I will succeed in unifying America — you’ll have to ask America when it’s over,” she told ESPN.
  • This halftime will be the first time viewers watch an ad from Budweiser focusing on a refugee.
  • Speaking of beer, Americans down an estimated 325.5 million gallons of beer on Super Bowl Sunday. Oh, my.
  • The cost of a 30-second spot is now $5.5 million, double the price in just 2010.
  • Super Bowl LI will take place at NRG Stadium in Houston – the entire NRG Complex spans 350 acres—twice the size of Disneyland!
  • Supermodel Gisele Bundchen gave her husband a “protection” necklace for the Super Bowl.
  • The Atlanta Falcon’s players have special game day playlists. Think Drake, 2 Chainz, Travis Scott, and for a calming affect, Sade.
  • Vic Beasley’s main goal is to make Tom Brady’s life miserable during Super Bowl LI. But when he’s not doing that, he plays the piano to ease his mind.
